Two trailer types are most often confused in heavy cargo transport: the pool trailer (well trailer) and the lowbed trailer. Both carry loads on a lowered platform, but their structural differences directly affect transport performance.
What Is a Pool Trailer?
On a pool trailer, the load deck is recessed — set lower between the front and rear axle groups, forming a "well." This design allows single-piece, compact, and extremely heavy loads (large machinery, transformers, industrial equipment) to be carried with the lowest possible center of gravity.
What Is a Lowbed Trailer?
A lowbed trailer has a lowered, flat loading deck running the full length of the chassis. This offers more flexibility for both long and heavy components — machinery groups, long profiles, prefabricated elements.
Options at Foxon Trailer
Our range includes 3-axle dual-tire and 3-axle single-tire pool trailer models, built for compact, extremely heavy single-piece loads; and 3-, 4-, and 5-axle lowbed models, designed for longer loads or loads that need to be distributed across more axles.
Which One Fits Your Job?
- Pool trailer — compact, single-piece, extremely heavy equipment; sites with limited loading space.
- Lowbed trailer — long components, multiple equipment groups, transport needing flexible axle configuration.
We're happy to help you decide based on your load's center of gravity, dimensions, and route conditions. Reach out through our quote request form and we'll recommend the right model.
